The what vs. how The key to the present moment

Is “the how” the Key to the Present Moment?

Yesterday we spoke about our self image. If we let our self image go, even for a moment, what remains?

Now, this may be the ultimate question for anyone who “seeks” enlightenment. Clearly, it’s not a question the mind can answer. But, it is a question that penetrates deep into our true essence. That, which not only knows the answer, it is the answer! What remains? Love. That is all. And this, this is how we can all live our life. It’s our birthright!

But then, there’s this human mind and body, and conditioning. And, a lot more “forces”. And, before we know it, we are all sucked into this life, as we know it.

This life however, is not the only option of a “life” we can have. It’s just another human expression, one of infinite ones.

So, here’s a little reminder. Do you feel discomfort in you? Is it about your self image by any chance? Great, it’s time to wake up. Perhaps, there’s another human expression to choose to experience today. After all, there are infinite options. Which brings me to the topic I want to share today.

The what vs. how: The key to the present moment?

You don’t need to look at hundreds of business presentations to see that there’s usually a clear pattern. There is a lot of focus on the outcome. What are we trying to achieve? Tell me the bottom line, the end justifies the means…we have all seen this pattern numerous times. And not just at work. Everywhere! In fact, since we are young, we are conditioned to operate in this goal-oriented “reality”. And, it doesn’t take long. Before we know it, we are sucked into this way of thinking. I call it “the What”.

But, then, an ancient wisdom about the way, or “the how”, is left behind. Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the Climb.

Now, if you wonder where I am going with all of this, here goes:

The how offers us the key to the present moment.

The What, on the other hand, will alway take us away from the present moment. Back into the future.

Now, it’s time to wake up. Now.

There’s no what without the how

Now, think about this for a moment. Any goal or objective you want to achieve. The what. You can always break it down to smaller “what” parts. Or, smaller steps. But, you can also, break down each of these baby steps, to “how” steps. In other words, which way we choose to approach things. The path, if you will.

But this goes deeper than the actual action or baby step we want to take. Because, even before we actually do anything, there’s the intention. The thought. And, this is where the magic of the moment happens. While we can’t guarantee the what, we can always make sure the how. Simply, by placing the intention on it right now in the present moment.

And, it’s not about doing

Now, look deep and ask. Who is this who wants to achieve that goal?

Is there true acceptance to this intention, or is there also judgement? Or, fear? The more clear we can get with ourselves, the closer we get to our true essence. And, really, we need to be brutally honest with ourselves. Very often than not, we are chasing things to satisfy that self-image of ours, or because of some fear. And really, who knows why we want all these things? The mind is complex. And, we have all being conditioned aggressively by everyone around us. As a result, we end up with many internal conflicts we may not be aware of.

It is no wonder then, that achieving certain things can become a lifelong struggle. Only to find, that this “sacrifice” wasn’t worth it because we never really needed these things. Turns out, the end absolutely didn’t justify the means.

But, what if we allow ourselves to look deeper and ask these questions?

Who is this who wants to achieve this? Can it be seen? Is this really me? And, you may want to give some space to it. This is not a question for the mind.

Then, all of a sudden, the objective we initially wanted so bad, appears lighter. All the heaviness start to dissolve. Now, the path is so clear, because you are already stepping on it. And, before you know it, you are in the present moment. You are living in the flow. And, there’s love everywhere. Yes, it’s one of these human expressions that actually feel really good. And, much closer to our true nature, which is love.

Oh, and don’t be surprised if on the way, this outcome, that thing you wanted will already manifest itself. Somehow, effortlessly. I said it before, it’s a true wonder. 🙂

Aloha and Love.
