I find this is a great question to ask every time there’s a feeling that “things do not flow”, or when there’s some sort of a discomfort.
The mind may immediately react and offers “brilliant” answers and insights. Yes, I am aligned with life. Or, No I am not and here’s why.
But then, there may be a more humble somewhat silent “voice”. That voice who asks back: “and who is this, who wants to be aligned with life?”
Who I am doesn’t NEED to become anything. Whether I am aligned or not aligned with life is a concept. Yes, this question helps to “expose” one of the many “faces” of identities of the ego-mind.
I often find myself laughing when I ask myself this question, because I realize that once again. With this realization that I am not “REQUIRED” or “NEEDED” to do anything, there’s a calming sense of lightness, inner peace, and relief. This simple, yet profound self inquiry can lead to life changing discoveries. Or, it can just make my day brighter.
The many faces of the ego-mind
Many of the spiritual teachings bring the topic of the”spiritual seeker” persona. That, who is constantly looking for enlightenment. If enlightenment and spiritual awakening are goals you are passionate about, it would make sense then to dedicate the time and effort in order to achieve these in the future. Right?
But, if you do so, does it mean right now you are not enlightened? Do you have to earn it or become it? Very quickly, this question becomes more and more like the “am I aligned with life” question. If you take all your beliefs, goals, thoughts, identities and so on, put all of these aside, what remains? The best words I am aware of that describe this “state”, is presence, stillness, empty space, or simply, nothing.
Yet, this “nothing” is complete. There’s no need to become enlightened or aligned with life. Nothing but inner peace and love.
Until our next talk, aloha and love.
